Somerville Armory Bucket Brigade Pub Sing - 4th Tuesday

Details

Come share chorus songs!

NOTE: This one (4th Tuesdays) no longer uses Zoom! Instead, we'll be using Bucket Brigade Singing, which is Jeff Kaufman's alternative to Zoom for singing. For each song, the leader of that song is assigned to the first of a sequence of buckets, and other singers are randomly assigned to other buckets. Each person gets to hear and sing along with all of the earlier buckets but not the later ones. This lets it be insensitive to network latency while letting you hear, on the average, about half of the other singers.

The URL is: https://echo.jefftk.com/
Although there's no registration involved, there is a brief setup process, and if you want to actively participate, you'll need the following:

  • A computer (not a phone or tablet)
  • A recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge
  • Headphones, preferably wired ones

(Our 2nd Thursday sings, however, will continue to use Zoom.)

Based on a traditional English pub sing, but with a bit of an American flavor, our session meets twice a month (on each 2nd Thursday and 4th Tuesday), and is open to all.

Pub singing emphasizes spontaneity, rich harmonies, and energetic joy. But, most of all, it emphasizes GROUP PARTICIPATION! We're looking for songs that allow everyone to join in, rather than solo performances that reduce everyone but the leader to the role of passive observer.

We love the fine old drinking songs and know plenty of sea chanteys and chorus songs from the British Isles and New England. But pretty much anything goes, as long as it encourages everyone to participate. Bring a song to share, or just join in on the choruses.

Very important to us is that ABSOLUTELY NOBODY SHOULD EVER FEEL PRESSURED INTO LEADING A SONG. Of course we hope you'll be interested in leading a song, but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with spending the session singing along, without leading a song.

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: This sing is not solely a Meetup group event, and takes place even if nobody from Meetup says they are attending.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: For those that are able, please consider making a donation to Arts at the Armory, at https://artsatthearmory.org/donate/, to help them through this difficult time. We really want it to still be there when we're ready to resume gathering in person!
