Details
Ridge Top Tracks, Open Country, Deer Park, and Two Amazing Manor Houses. 1hr frm London!
For this 10mile/16k adventure we take one of the most exciting routes in South East England. Walking out of the bustling town of Sevenoaks we head into country bringing us to our first stop at lunch at Igtham Mote Manor House. Although it has a moat this is not what it's names after, originally mote meant “meet”, a mid country meeting places for shepherds and sheep traders this house is however as spectacular as any traditional Manor house. We will break for a slightly elongated lunch for an hour allowing those who wish to time to wander round the grounds.
We then hit open country taking a trail climbing up the Greensand Way national path and over a high ridge over Rooks Hill, One Tree Hill and Carters Hill, the elevation (204m) is not massive but enough for a great view across towards Underriver and the Kent Wield. We then finish the walk by heading across Knole Park to walk past the exterior of the truly majestic 1456 Knole House. This enormous manor house and Deer park were built for the Archbishops of Canterbury and the fallow and sika deer still roam the park.
We often see a lot of them when we do this walk and you can see the pictures here of a previous visit! http://tiny.cc/c67puz
We finish the route back in Sevenoaks where we’ll stop in one of the local pubs for a well earned drink/tea/coffee and a meal for those who are hungry. We then jump on the train back to London.
