Jason, great discussion! Turns out the pick was excellent - history, culture, romance, aristocracy, matrimony, changing fortunes, status, power ...
    Thanks for organizing.

ajit and I attended. I don't know the what is standard etiquette for these meetups but I do know that a number of people changed their rsvp in advance to no. to those people, thank you for being conscientous. next time I will ask for a quorom of at least 5 people so I would very much appreciate it if you cant make it to notify the meetup board in advance.

hey, that is fine. it would great to hear how the story translated to a movie. I hear it is very slow and languid, like the book.

Hi Jason, The book being formidable, I decided to be content with going thru the movie (the american version). Yes, you have to 'go thru' the movie - it is 2 hours and 40 minutes. I enjoyed it thoroughly but had to supplement with reading on the wiki on Garibaldi, Italian unification and the wiki entry on the book itself that has chapter summaries.

Hi Ajit, that sounds like a great suggestion. I just sent an introductory e-mail to the people that have signed up asking for suggestions. Hopefully I will have a good feeling for the group in the next week and let everyone know. that way we have at least a month before the first meeting. as for place, well, not yet...

Hi all, I am suggesting we read 'Team of Rivals' - The political genius of Abraham Lincoln. Well, but it is not a classic ...
Anyone has a true 'classic' suggestion?
It would be better if we had some suggestions going into the first meeting.

And Jason, have you decided on a place yet ?
