What we’re about
Meet other local people who speak and are interested in practicing modern Greek, discuss the current and on-going economic crises, argue over the resiliency - and superiority - of Greek culture and the modern Greek state, or any other phil-Hellenic interest.
Enjoy some olives, cheese, krasi and pita bread, washed down with 3,000 years of unmatched history (or ouzo if you're into cliches)!

Lecture at the Embassy of Greece
Greek Embassy, 2217 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC, DC, USAthan has already sent this talk as an email announcement but I'm posting as an event because I plan to go. Anyone interested, you can sign up and you can contact me through Meetup to meet. Make sure to RSVP because they do check names to get into the building. The lecture hall is downstairs after entering on the left. There is no admission and the talk is in English.
Last talk I went, they had a reception following the talk with wine and mezedes. There are few tickets still left! If there is interest, we can all meet outside 10-15 minutes before the lecture.
Parking can be a problem, so plan accordingly. Alternatively, the DC metro is an option at the Dupont Circle stop and some walking for approximately 3 blocks.

RSVP (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-greek-language-as-a-thought-instrument-tickets-1751748850969?aff=oddtdtcreator)The expressive power of the Greek language was refined over centuries along with the development of the Greeks’ unique political and philosophical experiments, resulting in a language that is especially suited for articulating abstract principles. Indeed, the ideas behind western political institutions, philosophy, and science can be found in specific features of Greek language. This lecture will consider the historical, philosophical, and linguistic developments that created the Greek language, and will discuss the consequences of the decline of the use and teaching of Greek.
Dr. Joseph Conlon, Professor of Classics, Director of the Greek Program, and Dean of Graduate Studies at Ralston College, Savannah, Georgia, specializes in language acquisition and pedagogy and is also translator of literature in the katharevousa form of Greek.3 attendeesDC Greek Language MeetUp
