What we’re about
Meet other local people who speak and are interested in practicing modern Greek, discuss the current and on-going economic crises, argue over the resiliency - and superiority - of Greek culture and the modern Greek state, or any other phil-Hellenic interest.
Enjoy some olives, cheese, krasi and pita bread, washed down with 3,000 years of unmatched history (or ouzo if you're into cliches)!

Γιασσας! I hope all our members have had a great summer (despite the Trump administration's takeover of the world's greatest city...), whether you made it to the motherland or not.
We will kick off what I think is our 22nd year of Greek Language MeetUps at our old standby, the newly renovated Parthenon Restaurant on Thursday, October 2nd* at 7:30 pm (we normally meet on the last Thursday of the month, by that's my wedding anniversary).
In addition to speaking the mother tongue, I’d like to discuss the potential for a themed MeetUp and whether we'd like to plan an outing (hike, boat trip, etc.) for later in October.
In the meantime, here are a few other Hellenic events happening this fall:
- Sts. Constantine & Helen’s Greek Fest is on Sept. 5-7, at 721 Norwood Rd. in Silver Spring, and will feature live music, dancing, authentic cuisine, and a gyro eating contest on Saturday, the 6th at 6 pm.
- The Hellenic Center's Golden Jubilee is scheduled for Sunday, October 12th, from 3 to 7 pm at Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, featuring dinner, live music, and a cash bar. Tickets and more information can be found at https://helleniccenter.org/golden-jubilee/
- On Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 6:30 pm, the Center for Hellenic Studies and the Hellenic Society Prometheas, under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece, will present “100 Years of Hadjidakis: Celebrating the centennial birthday of beloved composer Manos Hadjidakis” performed by The Kombos Collective featuring Mary-Victoria Voutsas (piano), Katerina Clambaneva (vocals), and DC Greek MeetUp alum Ellie Falaris Ganelin (flute). The concert will take place at the Center for Hellenic Studies, 3100 Whitehaven St NW, in Washington. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at DCgreeks.com.
