We're teaming up with the Kanza Sierra Club group regarding a climate change update. The talk and Q&A will focus on the climate problems and solutions from a global perspective based on the United Nations Conference on Climate Change that takes place each year. The discussion will cover the many accomplishments and pledges of both COP 28 and COP 29, providing a realistic view of the possibility of achieving net zero by the year 2050.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Thomas Grant has a PhD in Chemistry from Purdue University and is a registered Professional Engineer. He has now embarked on his third career as a paleontologist for the University of Kansas, studying the Mesozoic, the age of the dinosaurs. In this position, he deals with climate change and extinction on a regular basis. Before this, he had a 40-year career as an energy engineer with Ebasco Services in New York City with the title of Chief Engineer, and Midwest Research Institute (now MRIGlobal) in Kansas City with the title of Director. In these capacities, he participated in all types of energy projects from nuclear to solar.
He was selected as an Observer to COP 28 in 2023, The UN Conference on Climate Change and has kept a close contact since. He maintains an energy consulting firm XanaduEnergy LLC. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, having served on active duty in Korea, and in the reserve with the 101st Airborne at Fort Cambell, and the Army Materiel Command in the Pentagon.
