The Principles for Responsible Investment is an initiative supported by the United Nations that includes six inspirational principles which focus on the relevance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors to investment decision-making and ownership practices. This chapter analyzes the divestment of fossil fuels debate and discusses responsible investment through a corporate responsibility lens with a focus on climate justice. The chapter proposes that the divesting of fossil fuels allows corporations to be not only socially responsible but allows for the managing of climate change risks through responsible investments. The divestment of fossil fuels is a way to mitigate climate change harms and promote sustainability to protect our future generations."
