The Green Software – the Netherlands group is for anyone with a passion for green software development and supports the Green Software Foundation’s (GSF) mission to create a trusted ecosystem of people, standards, tooling and best practices for green software. We envision a thriving Dutch Green Software Community empowered to take charge of its future.

The non profit Green Software Foundation aims to change the culture of building software across the tech industry, so sustainability becomes a core priority to software teams, just as important as performance, security, cost and accessibility.

The Green Software - The Netherlands meetup community focuses on:

Raising awareness about green software development principles and their impact.
Encouraging action by sharing practical knowledge and fostering collaboration.
Creating a welcoming environment for individuals and organizations
committed to greener software.

🍃 Abstract
Sustainable IT is no longer just about measuring hardware efficiency or calculating CO2 emissions. It is about transforming the way we build, run, and evolve software. While tools exist to track energy consumption, many DevOps teams, architects, and IT leaders still struggle with the critical question of what they can actually do in their daily work to make software greener. In this talk, I introduce DevOps++, a practical framework that embeds sustainability directly into the development lifecycle. From coding and testing to infrastructure provisioning, observability, and continuous improvement, DevOps++ provides concrete steps to identify, act on, and measure opportunities for energy and carbon reduction. By integrating green practices into established workflows, teams can make meaningful architectural, coding, and operational choices that drive efficiency and long-term sustainability without sacrificing performance or agility. Attendees will leave with actionable insights and tools to optimize code and infrastructure for lower energy use, align architectural decisions with sustainability goals, and evolve DevOps practices to support greener software delivery. This approach is not about adding new tasks, but about reshaping the way we already work to deliver software that lasts, performs, and reduces impact on our planet.

Wilco Burggraaf is Principal Lead of Green Software Engineering at HighTech Innovators. With more than 20 years of experience in software development, architecture, and IT leadership, he has become a leading voice in sustainable software design. As a Green Software Champion, Wilco focuses on building technology that balances performance, efficiency, and responsibility, driving impact for both people and the planet. A frequent keynote speaker, writer, and community builder, he is dedicated to empowering teams with practical tools and insights to embed sustainability into everyday engineering practices. His mission is to make software smarter, greener, and more meaningful, together.

Cristian Lascu is the Global Advisory Lead for Sustainable Technology and Innovation at Endava. With over a decade of experience across technical, managerial, and strategic roles, he explores how technology and sustainability intersect to create new opportunities and ways of working. Cristian holds an Executive MBA from ESMT Berlin, where he focused on sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation.

Join us for an evening where sustainable thinking meets embedded tech, featuring Rust, CAN bus hacking, and the right to repair. Whether you're an embedded developer, sustainability advocate, or curious tinkerer, this meetup is for you.

We’ll open doors at 17:00 with a 30-minute walk-in and welcome, giving everyone time to settle in.

From 17:30 to 18:15, enjoy a shared dinner with fellow participants. Great food, relaxed vibes, and good conversation.

At 18:15, we’ll kick off the talks. Wilco Burggraaf will open with a 15-minute talk on the Right to Repair. As our devices become increasingly locked down by software, how can we as developers support transparency, autonomy, and sustainability? Wilco will explore how software design can either block or empower repairability.

Next, Frank Lyaruu, Principal Innovator at HighTech Innovators, will present “Automotive Rust: Amateur Style.” In this 45-minute session, Frank, a Rustacean, embedded hobbyist, and sustainable computing advocate, will introduce the art of CAN bus sniffing. Learn how to tap into a car’s digital nervous system using Rust, decode the data, and build your playful automotive hacks.

No prior automotive experience needed, just a passion for tech and curiosity.

We’ll close the evening with community networking from 19:30 to 20:00. Grab a drink, share ideas, and connect with fellow developers, makers, and repair advocates.
