This talk explores practical strategies that software teams can implement in their infrastructure to both reduce costs and minimize environmental impact. Drawing from real-world experience with a global retail platform, it addresses the challenges of scaling systems sustainably across regions with differing cloud providers and regulatory requirements.
Attendees will learn six actionable technical practices—from optimizing resource allocation and leveraging event-driven designs to scheduling workloads based on energy considerations and choosing greener cloud regions—that deliver measurable improvements in efficiency and sustainability.
The session also highlights the importance of continuous monitoring and automated infrastructure management to achieve lasting benefits. Ultimately, this talk empowers teams to take tangible steps toward scalable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible infrastructure

Christopher Salerno is a Senior Software Engineer at Ingka Digital, where he designs cloud-native applications to support IKEA’s sustainability goals.
With expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices, he focuses on building scalable, resilient systems that meet requirements across teams.
Passionate about Domain-Driven Design and clean coding, Christopher continuously works to optimize application performance.

We will explore how digital designers can support the transformation to sustainable businesses by broadening their perspective beyond usability and user needs.
We will discuss how to use design tools as instruments for raising awareness of the impacts of digital products, and influence corporate culture and user behavior through small acts of intentional change.

Anna Forlati is Head of Digital Sustainability and Impact at TeamSystem. With a background in UX Design and Business Design, she bridges technology, sustainability, and humanity-centred innovation.
Her work focuses on integrating ESG principles and digital sustainability strategies into products and processes, designing technology that creates positive impact for people, businesses, and the planet.
