What we're about

Meet other people interested in herbs & natural healing, while you learn about the role of plants in health care.

Classes and gatherings are held at various venues. The main venue is Green Wisdom School of Herbal Studies in Long Beach, a school and apothecary supply shop open to the public during the week.
Classes are also held at The Green Man in North Hollywood, at The Growing Experience Urban Farm, and elsewhere.

We hold events that focus on bio-regional plants, medicine-making, and empowering people to take control of their own health. You will learn about botany, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, math, language, history and more, in your journey, and it will be fun and exciting and silly and adventurous.

Classes range in structure and fees from simple free gatherings and gardening work days, to stand along classes generally in the $20-$50 range, to short range series of classes on a specific subject (Women's Health, Apothecary, Anatomy, and the like, subjects too complex for a single class). There is also a first- and second-year apprenticeship offered (filled for 2018, sorry!). For more information on the apprenticeship, and on Julie, and other offerings such as consultations and personalized classes, visit the website at www.GreenWisdomHerbalStudies.com, come in to the school during the week, M, T, Th, F from 9-4, or call us at 562-591-8700. Hope to see you in class soon!

Herbal Support in Cancer Care

The Green Man + Los Angeles

When a client, friend or family member comes to you with a diagnosis of cancer, it can feel overwhelming to consider how to provide nutritional and herbal support. But there are so many ways that we can do so, to provide guidance and help in building vitality and wellness, increasing quality of life and protecting immunity and energy, preventing or reducing general side effects, while avoiding negative interactions with medications and even enhancing therapeutic outcomes of conventional cancer treatments. In this class we will discuss the many ways we can safely and effectively provide herbal and nutritional support in cancer therapy. The information in this class is not intended to diagnose or treat disease. The information is for educational purposes only, and protocols for treatment should be discussed with your health care provider. Class fee is $28, with a $3 discount if paying cash. Please pay at the Green Man Store, not online.

Monday Plant Meditation: Catnip

Green Wisdom

$10.00

Start your week on the perfect note, with an hour of intensive focus on a single plant. Join us in person or online, every Monday morning, from 9-10 am (with a few exceptions noted in the dates below)! We will begin with a short meditation, sipping tea and sitting in silence with the plant, letting it tell us what it wants to. Only then will we begin to unpack what we know about this plant: botany, history, chemistry, tradition, energetics, applications, we'll look at it all, we will taste and explore the common forms of the plant, and learn the best way: by direct experience. You'll complete your herbal monograph in class, to take home and continue your studies, and have the option to purchase an ounce of dried, certified organic, sustainably grown or ethically wildcrafted tea, or tincture/glycerite, to continue your explorations at home. The week's herbs (and all products that contain them as an ingredient!) will be on sale for 20% off during that week only, so stock up and continue your exploration! A different plant each week (with an occasional week off), 43 plants in the year--by the end of 2019, you will have amassed a significant amount of deep knowledge about these powerful and delightful plant allies. Come to a single class, come to a few chosen, come to all of them--it's completely up to you! Each class is $10, Buy a ten class card (good only for this class series) for $80.
