This event's speaker is Gergely Markó, compost master:
I am an English teacher. I got into composting when my dad had brought home a booklet about composting back in 1988. We both read it and my family started collecting our kitchen scraps separately right away. We lived in an apartment in district IX of Budapest at the time. We would then take our organic waste to our holiday home at weekends, and compost it together with garden waste there. It has been 37 years, I have been composting ever since. I got into neighbourhood composting a.k.a. community composting in 2021 when we built the neighbourhood composting site in Teleki square from the money we raised ourselves. I was master composter there from 9 June 2021 to 30 September 2023, but as of 28 September 2022 I have also worked as master composter in Boráros square. I am committed to composting, I compost at home in Csákvár, but I look after the compost bins in Boráros square at least once a week typically on Wednesday mornings. I take the 5:50 bus from Csákvár to get to Budapest around 7, do whatever needs to be done with the compost, and then take the bus home.
