An AI Architect's Path To Finding And Building Momentum To Fight Climate Change
Details
We're delighted to be welcoming the hugely impressive Sylvia Downing (CTO, Azimuth AI) to GTSW.
Sylvia's talk is part of the Bristol Digital Futures Institute Summer School on Ecocentric AI. Read more about the program and sign up for other events here.
While working on climate change seems a good use of time, it's often difficult to know if one's efforts are improving the world. How can we look at the big picture and find a way to effect meaningful change with the skills we have, within the governmental and economic systems we humans created?
Fortunately there are public data pointing to major contributors. IPCC highlights that the power and transportation sectors contribute about half of the world’s greenhouse gasses. And governments and industries worldwide have programs focused on efficiency and infrastructure.
But how can we contribute if we’re not experts in these areas?
This talk describes one engineer's efforts to change the weather. Using experience, partnerships, stubbornness, and above all, the ability to listen and learn, she will describe how she found problems worth solving in support of reducing greenhouse gasses worldwide.
The hope is that the audience is inspired to do the same.
