Europe is disconnecting from its reliance on the United States. Is this a good thing or bad?
For the past 100 years, since WWI, the U.S.'s military has been instrumental in our successful standing in world politics. For the past 80 years much of the world, Europe and Japan in particular, have been significantly dependent on it. Through both our military and economic superiority the U.S. has had an outsized influence on world events.
It seems this is changing. Between Trump's refutation of NATO and his trade-war tariffs, is the U.S. giving up its influence over other nations? Are we becoming a greater or lesser nation?
