Details

Meet at the put-in by 11 am. Our goal is to be on the river by 11:30.

Let’s paddle The Territories of Central Saluda! This section of the Saluda is secluded, peaceful and perfect for those who enjoy a gentle paddle on the river. The trip is a little over 7 miles and will take around 4 hours. It is suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers both. Depending on water levels, expect one to four Class I rapids and perhaps one to three Class II rapids. Portage from the parking lot to the river entry is required, but relatively easy to navigate (flat and grassy path). The driving distance between put in and take out is very short and a shuttle between the two points will be easy to manage.

Paddlers are required to wear PFD at all times and have a safety whistle. Approximately halfway through the trip we will stop for a lunch and stretch break, so prepare for that and bring plenty of water. Hats, water shoes, and sunscreen are highly recommended. This is a very forgiving stretch of water so all types of watercraft work well…recreational and whitewater kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards are suitable. If you plan to use a paddleboard, please know that there will be points on the river where standing up on your board is not advised; however, kneeling or sitting on your board will be safe at those points.
