Buy Local Day (Buy Local or Not at All)

Details

As many of you know, various organizations are participating in a boycott starting on February 28th. I think that for many of us, this will be difficult and while avoiding buying things for a day doesn't ultimately change either our habits or the flow of money away from workers and our local communities - buying local does. So, let our opening be to take a day to intentionally shop locally. Even if no one notices - and they will - we'll be making our local communities a little richer while still getting to enjoy the things we love most.

  1. The goal for this event is for all who participate to be committed to shopping at locally owned stores for the day - if you need meat, go to the meat market. If you go out to eat, go to a local family owned restaurant rather than a chain. Don't buy anything online, especially via sites like Amazon
  2. If you want to go above and beyond, look through your online subscriptions and cancel all the ones you don't use. I've cancelled all of mine and I'm saving more than $100 dollars a month.
