Green Software Foundation Oslo - October Meetup [In-Person]

Details

Welcome to the Green Software Foundation Oslo October meetup! 🥳 This month's meetup is organized to support the CNCF Cloud Native Sustainability Week, which is a global event where the community organizes local meetings around the theme of cloud native sustainability.

We would like to thank Computas for supporting this event. 💚

📍 Directions: The event will be hosted at Computas office in Akersgata 35, 0158 Oslo.

📋 Meetup Agenda:

17:00 - 18:00 - Mingling and food. As an environmentally conscious meetup group we will be providing vegetarian food by default (with vegan-friendly options). If you would like a non-vegeterian food option, please let us know!

18:00 - 20:00 - talks:

  • "Lean Mean Green Machines - Architecting for a Greener Future" by Sara Bergman, Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft Development Center Norway and co-author of "Building Green Software" book. Few industries have moved fast enough to support the energy transition, and that includes the tech sector. How will software development and operations have to change to meet the sustainability and green needs of the planet?
  • "A short, chaotic, and incomplete review of custom Kubernetes autoscalers” by Marta Paciorkowska, Software Engineer at Oda. Kubernetes is one of the top choices for orchestrating software systems running in the cloud. It comes with autoscaling out-of-the-box, but is that enough for running lean and energy-efficient workloads compatible with the green future? What alternatives are there, and how do they work? Let's find out!
  • "Avoided emissions - how software businesses can have an outsized enabling impact" by Markus Øverli, CTO in MoreScope.
To reach net zero the world needs to invest much more in climate solutions. Software as a category has the potential to play an outsized role here - how should one think about avoided emissions as a software company? The talk will additionally touch into challenges in data collection for scope 3 emissions and how spend- and activity data can play together for understanding carbon footprint of companies.

20:00 - Post-talks mingling. 🙌

Looking forward to seeing you all there! 😺

❗️ Please only reply YES on the RSVP if you are actually coming. Please also keep in mind that the RSVP deadline is 12:00 on October 4th, and that we have a limit of 100 participants.
