GTA Hiking & Stuff

This event is focused on meeting new people! All ages are welcome!

Join this event if you are looking to meet new friends while doing something active.

Glen Stewart Ravine is a beautiful trail in the Beaches neighborhood.

The 7km hike will start at Donald D Summerville Olympic Pool. We will walk east on the boardwalk towards Glen Stewart Ravine. There are stairs at Glen Stewart so be prepared for a leg workout!

Good exercise comes with a REWARD - we will stop by for ice-cream on the way back at Ed's Real Scoop Ice-cream for those who want to indulge in a treat!

The event will be approx 2.5 to 3-hours, including the stair workout and ice-cream social.

What to bring in your backpack:
- water bottle
- wear running shoes or sneakers (no hiking shoes) for the walk as we will walk mostly on a flat boardwalk.
- optional: snacks, cash for ice cream

MEETING SPOT:
Meet at the Donald D Summerville pool, the side facing the beach (1867 Lakeshore Blvd EAST).
Driving: FREE parking is available at the beach parking lots.
TTC: the closest subway is Woodbine station

MEETING TIME:
We start at 5:00 pm. Please aim to arrive by 4:45pm. I will guide everyone through a warmup, and then we will start the hike.

CARPOOL REQUESTS:
Post your request for a carpool in the event. It is up to the hiker to find their own transportation, either by asking for a ride and arranging with another member, offering to rent a vehicle, or inviting a friend who drives.

Meetup fees help support in the work involved in planning, organizing, coordinating and leading safe and inclusive events for the group. Hikes are led by a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor also certified in emergency first aid and CPR training.

Cancelation policy:
Meetup fees are final (no refunds). Cancel 3 days before an event to put your event fee towards another event (credit). If the organizer needs to reschedule an event, credit will be applied to a future event.

Hike Rules:

• no smoking on trails
• be kind and respectful

• no blasting loud music
• no littering trails with garbage.

Valley Farm Dog Park @ Seaton Trail & 3rd Concession -
*** This is a intermediate trail ***
Previously I labeled this as "difficult" due to the snow and ice, but lets try Intermediate now the nicer weather is here.

Please read carefully to maximize the enjoyment of everyone who attends:

There are multiple trails located here, some are relatively easy, others are more difficult. I will be leading you over the more challenging sections and at a fast pace. We wont be running, but moving along quickly. Don't worry, we will be stopping to rest at the peaks as well as some of the more scenic areas.

This area contains a number of rather steep hills which tend to be rocky and wet. Flip side, this trail also offers gorgeous views both from the peaks, as well as down along the water.

We will hike at a medium pace (4 - 5 km/h) for the 10 or so kms.

It's not a hike for beginners due to the steep rocky hills and faster pace. For the same reason no dogs or children.

Bring 1L of water and good hiking shoes or boots. Please avoid running shoes - There is an area at the hydro-cut which can't be avoided and is almost-always flooded. I certainly wont prevent you from wearing running shoes but will warn you that there is a very high probability you are going to get wet and potentially muddy depending on if it rained recently.

NOTE: Due to construction you can’t take Brock to 3rd concession, you MUST take valley farm road which you can reach from Brock via Dellbrook Ave, or alternatively via Kingston or Finch Ave.

There are signs warning of construction, the trail and parking are open so just follow the construction signs. At the end of valley farm turn LEFT - The parking lot is not far and on your left.

This beginners hike is set up to welcome new hikers so they can enjoy a beautiful walk in nature. Regular hikers are welcome to join as well. The terrain is relatively flat, and we will hike approximately 5-6kms.

We will explore some of the trails in Bob Hunter Memorial Park. The park is part of the Rouge National Urban Park system. The headwaters of Little Rouge Creek meanders its way through the forested valley.

The paths will be both paved and dirt, so please bring the appropriate footwear. Don't forget your water.
