Durham forest hike
Details
Hello hikers! 👋
This event is for those interested in a longer winter hike of approximately 20–23 km on Tuesday, January 20.
The route is scenic and varied, featuring rolling hills and changing landscapes including open meadows, dense forest sections, and a few road crossings along the way. It’s a beautiful trail that offers a little bit of everything.
Hike plan:
We’ll aim to take one longer rest break around the 12–13 km mark at a nice viewpoint, where we can relax, enjoy some snacks, and recharge before continuing. Short 5-minute breaks can be taken as needed throughout the hike.
What to bring
- Plenty of water (around 1.5 L recommended)
- Snacks
- Sunglasses or glare protection
- Microspikes for hiking shoes, if you have them (recommended for winter conditions)
What to wear
I personally found this short YouTube video helpful for winter hiking attire:

- Snow depth: up to 19 cm
Notice : latest start time will be 7:35am and we might not wait for everyone. Please be on time
Please come prepared for winter conditions and a longer distance. Looking forward to hiking together and enjoying the trai!
