What we’re about
We're an awesome group of people who like "life out loud", despite obstacles like shyness, social anxiety, or even negativity. This is a “General Interest Meetup Group”
This is a general interest meet up group (with a slight lean towards geek). We get together for every kind of positive social activity -- karaoke, board games, movies, 5k walk/runs, craft nights, trivia competitions, and a whole lot more.
We are a group of open-minded, fun, positive, friendly, respectful, and supportive people who come from all walks of life. No matter what your background, we want to meet you. We want you to meet each other. We all have value as human beings, so let’s share that value with one another. The more diverse our group is, the more fun we will all have!!
Who Are The Organizers:
Groups like ours come about from Event Organizers that have grown and expanded their minds through the meetup experience. We are or have been Event Organizers, Organizers or Assistant Organizers in other Meetup groups and now have ideas and direction of our own that we would like to share with members of our group, The Leadership Team along with you, the members, will share ideas and shape the future of this group. Together let's make our group the best one on Meetup.
Post suggestions, reach out to organizers, comment and criticize, constructively of course. Let us help each other to make this the best experience for all of us. The Leadership Team is here to assist you and answer any questions.
But, we all maintain that the strength of the group is YOU, the members!!
Our Events:
We do events throughout the five boroughs of New York City and beyond. Our events range from a simple walk in the park to flying through a canopy of trees on a zip line, to trying out new cuisines, and much more. We may even spend an entire weekend away, either hiking/camping or going on a getaway. The events will range in the number of attendees allowed, dependent upon what type of event. If the event will involve alcoholic beverages, you must be 21 or older to RSVP to that event.
Don't worry about coming out alone, that's what most of us have done and still do... we'll make sure that you feel welcome, have fun and hopefully go home having had a memorable time.

•Onlinelet's join another meetup group with a Live-Read (Zoom) of a short story
Onlinewe will be joining another meetup group the NYC sci-fi fantasy book club group to read live and in real time a short story. we will read a short story out loud together. The text will be up on the screen
"Love Is the Plan the Plan Is Death" is a short story by James Tiptree, Jr. (pen name of Alice Sheldon), first published in 1973. The story won the 1974 Nebula Award for Best Short Story and was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novelette and was ranked 3rd in the Locus Magazine poll for Best Short Fiction.
It may be the most alien story ever written. It is confusing; it is rewarding; it is like no other. If you get tired of standard holiday fare, join us for the tale.
The host will put the text on the screen, and we'll take turns reading 3 paragraphs at a time. Since we'll be reading aloud together (live-read) there's no need to read the story beforehand, although if you want to it is available free on https://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/love-is-the-plan-the-plan-is-death/. You may have more fun enjoying the process of discovery as we go along. The great thing about live-reads is that all you have to do is show up.
There are some natural stopping points, so we'll pause at least once for discussion. A read-through with no breaks would take about 30 to 45 minutes. We may read it twice. We'll finish when we finish. (Maybe 1.5 hours total, but Meetup's scheduling function has a limited pre-set selection of time increments, so that's why this one is listed as 2 hours.)
We look forward to having you join us.
ONLINE MEETING POLICY: We are meeting online, please use video to make meeting more personal and use mute to avoid background noise when not speaking
