April 2012

Welcome to Getting Things Done DC (GTDDC) Productivity Meetup's April newsletter! If you're receiving this you're a member of GTDDC, and if you're receiving this via forward from a friend because of your interest in being more productive we're glad you're reading; please visit our meetup site and become a member to receive the e-newsletter directly. Getting Things Done DC Productivity Meetup is a group of local personal productivity enthusiasts who enjoy discussing and sharing ideas/resources centering on David Allen's work, started with his seminal book on personal productivity, Getting Things Done®. It's that simple!

Here's what is going on this month related to Getting Things Done!

Getting Things Done DC (GTDDC)MEETUP
Join us on April 18, 2012 at 7:30PM for our monthly meeting; this month we'll be discussing, "Are Projects Lists Necessary, or Not?" based on David Allen's most recent newsletter article about the topic. Check out the agenda for the meetup event to learn more about what we'll be discussing and while you're there please RSVP if you'll be attending. As usual, we'll do Introductions & Successes, Challenges Forum, and last but not least, we'll have GTD Resources Sharing time!

If you've created a Google+ profile, please visit out Google+ Page and circle us. While you're at it, spread the word and let some of your Google+ connections know too! We will be planning Google+ Hangouts and more over time to kick the tires on the new Google social platform, especially as it opens up to developers to build all sorts of productivity tools for us GTDers!

As you may or may not have heard, David Allen is coming to the District to present "Making It All Work," an all-day workshop covering GTD in redux with all the charm and panache of David brings to productivity best-practices, on May 24, 2012 at The St. Regis Hotel. For full details, visit the DavidCo website and register if you'd like to attend. Check out the website for detailed pricing, but it seems as though it starts at 945$ (50$ discount if you register before April 24, 2012).

As part of my ongoing episodes at ProdPod, the podcast of productivity lessons in two minutes or less, I've decided to start hosting twice monthly, one-hour Twitter conversations (or, "tweetchats") all about productivity. We will be discussing a different #productivity topic at each tweetchat and I'll be lining up our favorite productivity experts (and some people who are just plain productive and successful though they're not "productivity experts," per se) to answer your questions. Oh, and put a repeating event in your calendar to join us every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the'll be something to keep your GTD mindset in between GTD meetups! So, please spread the word about #ProdChat and please join us on April 25th at 1PM ET for our first tweetchat!

Team Accountability Project is coming on Friday, June 1, 2012. 'nough said about that. For those who don't know what Team Accountability Project (TAP) is: it's a psychology-based platform I've created for GTDers to create and maintain Accountability Partnerships. Accountability partners are empowered to stay on track to achieve their goals and consistently develop their GTD implementations and productivity systems together. I'll be sending a sneak-peak of TAP in May, so stay tuned for the May e-newsletter!

One of the biggest challenges in getting GTD going in life is that most people don't prioritize (no pun intended) reading the book! So, to help combat that and as part of a broader series of writing on my part, I'm launching a free, virtual book club that will break Getting Things Done, Ready for Anything (yes, it's worth reading and discussing!) and Making It All Work in progression, in manageable chunks every other week. For new and veteran GTDers, this will be a great opportunity to learn and refresh on GTD basics (and some intermediate and advanced concepts as they arise), as we work our way through the books. Calls with be recorded so that they can be podcasted and put on iTunes as well, so you can download and listen to them if you miss a call. We'll even have some surprise, guest facilitators handle some chapters! All that I ask is that you read (or re-read) the sections of the book before the call, although you're welcome to join the call even if you haven't read the selection and you have questions about the material. I'll disseminate information at the next meetup with details for the first call and all the upcoming dates!

Okay, so that's all I have for this month! I hope to see as many of you as can attend (it only takes two minutes to RSVP!) at next week's meetup!
