consciousness... we all experience it, but what even is it? how do we define it? can i pick up my consciousness and take it for a walk? can i get a refund on my consciousness? mine's defective...
but seriously, i'm not overly interested in defining consciousness with a capital C, as i think the subject of consciousness is such a vast topic that isn't limited to any one definition. i'm curious to dive deep into consciousness' many facets, explore its subjectivity, and hear what you all have to say about your own experiences with consciousness, both in the psychedelic experience and outside of it.
i want to preface that i'm more interested in consciousness as a whole, not solely focusing on it from a psychedelic sense (although the psychedelic aspect is worthy of discussion as well). there are so many angles we can take with this Meetup, so i'm leaving it fairly open to allow for our discussion to unfold as organically as possible.
i think using I HEART HUCKABEES (2004) by David O. Russell and WAKING LIFE (2001) by Richard Linklater as a starting point will make for a fun, engaging approach. both films veer in numerous directions, some ranging from downright silly and comedic, to exploring genuine insights and existential issues we all tend to experience at some point in our lives.
i'll share various videos as the Meetup draws nearer about consciousness and how some of the leading neuroscientists define it, as well as some videos relating to the films, to hopefully spur some talking points.
