It stands now in the centre of the city and is Brighton's oldest church , originally built in the 11th C . It has survived fire, flood and invasion and in its churchyard lie some of the most fascinating characters from Brighton's past - a man who saved a king from capture , a woman who dipped a prince in the sea , an Indian entrepenuer that popularised shampoo and curry in Britain and washed the king's hair .
