Gun.io Saloon Seminars: Let's End the World with AI - Or Possibly Order Pizza

Details
Gun.io Saloon Seminars: An open space for engineering conversations every week!
We're back!! This week with Bjørn Furuknap, and here's what he'll chat about:
I killed my previous game studio head, Rob, because he ordered me a pizza. Then I decided to end the world as we know it.
And although both of those things are technically true, as with many things related to AI, it is important to ask the right questions to understand what it means.
So, in this presentation, I will explain what the current state of AI and agents is, including my own experience with building self-learning and self-improving collaborative AI assistants several years ago.
Next, I will explain how I am currently approaching a new attempt at this as well as what others are doing with agentic AI, and finally, I will answer a very important question for all of us:
WIll I lose my job to an AI?
The answer is no. But you might still want to show up to hear why.
A bit about our guest, Bjørn:
-
I build things, and I have done that for over 30 years, 40 if you count making games as a kid. I have written 20+ books, founded my own university, and lived in a cave on an island in the Atlantic Ocean. I have built small games for indie studios, and I have credits for titles from industry legends like Brenda and John Romero. I have created menu apps for small bars on the beach in Costa Rica in exchange for beer, and I have built some of the largest software solutions in the world.
-
Right now, I am mostly the companion of my pug Rosa, who adopted me because her eyes are wonky, but when she allows, for example, during one of her long daily naps, I build things with and on top of AI and LLMs. I am also writing on my first series of AI books, of which I have so far come up with four titles I want to write.
