What we’re about

In 1912 an extraordinary man appeared in Moscow, bringing with him an unknown teaching about Man’s place and his possibilities.

His name was George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff.

Leaving Russia with a number of his pupils during the revolution, he eventually settled in France, situating his Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man at the Prieuré, Fontainebleau-Avon.

Sometimes in the rarefied atmosphere of a class in Sacred Dance, sometimes in the hurly-burly of life - he created the conditions through which self-initiation to another level of consciousness became possible.

Gurdjieff's evolutionary teaching continues today in a few but growing number of countries, passed on from teacher to pupil in direct lines of transmission.

New enquirers are directed to our sister Meetup Group Cafe Gurdjieff, in which we hold informal introductory events on different themes based on Gurdjieff's teaching.
