- Meet and Greet the CrewThe Ethorpe, Gerrards Cross
The GXSA Crew are meeting at 7:30pm Wednesday May 15th at The Elthorpe, 85 Packhorse Rd, Gerrards Cross SL9 8HX.
Come mingle with fellow boating enthusiasts, share your own experiences on the water, and gain valuable insights from our knowledgeable speakers. Whether you dream of sailing the high seas or prefer a leisurely cruise on the lake. Don't miss out on this chance to strengthen your boating skills and expand your love for all things nautical.
If you're interested in sailing, boats, or anything nautical, come along and have a chat with our Crew. We'll see if we can get you on the water over the summer, with a friendly skipper, and let you know what's happening with our Autumn programme .
- Gerrards Cross Sailing Association - Sailing Event - Rally to Gins FarmYarmouth Harbour, Yarmouth
Our April rally to Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, was successful and sunny, but a trifle chilly, with a strong northerly wind making the sailing conditions quite challenging.
Join us for our 2nd Rally of the summer. We're off to Gins Farm, on the River Beaulieu, Hampshire. We're looking forward to more warmth for this one!! See the event web page for details.
Dinner will be in the Royal Southampton Yacht Club restaurant, so we anticipate good food and good company.- Find a Skipper and join their boat
- Bring your own boat
- Charter a boat, and bring your own crew
- Rendezvous with your yacht, somewhere along the South Coast.
- Sail to Beaulieu.
However you come, you're bound to have fun.
Skippered places are very limited in numbers, so we have a very congested booking system, and there are several pre-conditions:
- You need to have GXSA Full Membership
- You must have attended a Meet & Greet with the GXSA Meetup Group
- You need to have been offered a place by a GXSA Skipper - OR you need to add your name to the wait-list on the GXSA website for the event.
See the GXSA Programme for more details, and to sign up to the Wait List.
Money: Whilst individual Skippers have their own perspective, we see the following approach quite commonly:
- All expenses for the weekend (eg. food, mooring, breakages) are shared equally between the crew.
- Crew members volunteer a daily contribution of £30 per person towards the upkeep of the boat.
- Dining out - Crew pay for their own food & drink, as you would on a normal evening out. Sometimes, depending on location, we need to organise a pre-paid restaurant dinner. That will become clear nearer the time.
- We always have a Pontoon Party with drinks and nibbles included in the price - usually around £10 per person.
Yacht ownership is a very expensive hobby; paying your fair share is the best way to ensure you get invited on the next trip!
We look forward to seeing you on the water !!
