Tso Chigma or Chandra Taal (meaning the Lake of the Moon), or **Chandra Tal (**about 4,300 metres (14,100 ft) is a lake in the Lahaul part of the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Chandra Taal is near the source of the Chandra River. The lake is one of two high-altitude wetlands of India which have been designated as Ramsar sites. There are vast meadows on the banks of the lake. During springtime, these meadows are carpeted with hundreds of varieties of wild flowers. There is a plain of good grass to the north of Chadra Taal, where shepherds bring large herds for grazing from Kullu and Kangra. It is a favourite spot for tourists and high-altitude trekkers. It is a surreal experience to witness sunsets n sunrises reflecting on the changing shades of it’s waters. Motor road runs as far as a parking lot 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from the lake. One has to travel on foot for the final 1 kilometre.
Spiti Valley is a cold & rugged desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The middle land", i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Temperature in June varies from 15° Celsius to 4° Celsius, and contrary to the popular opinion, it seldom rains. It is moderately cold, but there are also long hours of sunshine, which makes the valley look green and alive. And since there is little to no rain, it is also the best time to plan a Spiti visit.
