Cove Mountain (Above the Dauphin Narrows Statue of Liberty!)

Join me for a hike through Cove Mountain Nature Preserve, providing views of the iconic Dauphin Narrows Statue of Liberty; Marysville and the Rockville Bridge to the south; and Duncannon and Peters Mountain to the north.

Pace: Intermediate. I will wait at the top of climbs. Hikers should keep up with the pace elsewhere.

Distance: 4 to 5 miles

Terrain: Hilly with rock steps

Elevation: Major climbs = 1,200 feet

Amenities: Adequate parking, no bathroom facilities at parking lot

Pets: Not welcome due to the steep slopes

This hike will start at the Cove Mountain Preserve parking lot. We will hike up the Pink Trail to the Blue Trail that will take us to the top of the southern leg of Cove Mountain with views of Marysville and the Rockville Bridge to the south and Duncannon and Peters Mountain to the north. Next, we will take the Blue Trail down the Mountain to the Green Trail that will take us to a vista where we can view the iconic Dauphin Narrows Statue of Liberty from above. We will go back down the Green Trail to our cars.

Much of the climbing is facilitated by well-spaced rock steps. There will be a few short rock scrambles and some short steep sections without rock steps. None of this is beyond the capabilities of an intermediate hiker. Hiking poles make the rough areas easier.
