Join me for a loop hike around the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area. Not quite a bioblitz, but we will stop to observe wildlife if seen. We hope that the geese will still be in the area.

Distance and elevation: approximately 6 to 7 miles and 1,500 feet gain

Pace: Moderate, Not beginner. 2.5 miles per hour. Unexpected stops for wildlife observation!

Terrain: blazed trail through the woods, ridge trail with scenic views, connector trail, shaded gravel trail, climb to overlook, ridge return

Trails: Conservation, Elder’s Run, Connector to Middle Creek, Middle Creek, Millstone, and Horseshoe Trail.
Potential for wet/muddy sections.

Amenities: Visitor Center, if open, has restrooms, and there are portable toilets in some parking lots.

Pets: not permitted

Preparation: bring sufficient water for the weather, speed and difficulty of the hike; snacks or lunch if you will need them before returning home; bug spray; hiking poles

Meet me at the parking lot near the Visitor Center adjacent to the trailhead for the conservation trail.

Middle Creek Wildlife Center is a 6,000-acre nature preserve at the edge of Lancaster County. It is dedicated to the conservation and protection of wildlife and habitats. It has an interactive visitor center, seasonal wildlife driving tour, and 20 miles of hiking trails. It is one of just six Globally Important Bird Areas in the state.
