What we’re about

❤️ Computer? Terminally online? Is ur favorite language DOS?

Welcoming all programmers, hax0rs, creative technologists, off-duty APTs, maldevs, hats, feds, curious n00bs, lonely l33ts, radio operators, digital artists, cybersecurity nerds, pcb designers, OSINT baddies, lurkers, honeypots, researchers, policy makers, BBS archivists or anyone else looking for some Defcon energy in Louisville!

Purpose
Make new friends, make some art, learn cool new stuff, trade cat photos, do nerd stuff, touch some grass

🙋 “What’s the average age range of this thing?”
Idk 🤷‍♀️ I’m in my thirties and just started it so (you + me) / 2? Defcon is typically every age under the sun. I was hoping to evolve activities around the group. Come touch grass! Come make friend!

🙋‍♂️*“Is this more talks or social gatherings focused?”*
It’s whatever we want it to be! Ideally we’ll do a little bit of both with (🤞) some “havkathons” along the way!

🙋‍♀️ “What is Defcon?”
Defcon or DC is an annual conference in Las Vegas. It has evolved quite a bit over the years and means different things to different people. To me Defcon is a magical place filled with creativity, learning, community, warmth, friends and humor - the h4ck0r spirit!

🙋*“H4cK0rs are criminals?”*
Hacking is illegal and for nerds. H@ckøRs are people, who more often than not, possess high-sprinklings of traits like persistence, curiosity and creativity.
Idk who would be nuts enough to post their cyber-crime meetups on a platform like Meetup but since I can imagine it, I’m sure it has happened. So in case it needs to be said, this group is about making friends and being curious. Much like showing up to church, a pottery class or any other community - what color hat you wear when you’re behind closed doors is between you and your ISP.

Tl:dr
👍 making new friends, not knowing things and learning new things
👎 to illegal stuff

I’m excited! Let’s explore cool stuff!

Defining “Hacker”

If it’s of interest, here’s some reading material defining the “hacker mindset”. If you want a more “corporate”, read, here’s something I found quickly online (just now). Sadly, I do not have access to my favorite “writing” about this as it lives inside a PowerPoint presentation (and the mind) of our local ISSA president.

If you’re okay with something a bit “edgier”, I like “The Hacker’s Manifesto” written by The Mentor and published in Phrack back in 1986.
