Details

You're invited to PyNight, a combination Python competition and training opportunity, which will be held this Monday, March 14th 2016 (starting at 5:00 pm and ending at 9:00 pm). In partnership with theClubhou.se and Booz Allen Hamilton, we are proud to invite the community of all ages to participate.

Registration is Free.

All Python skill levels are welcome (total noobs to guru). Mentors will be available to help get you up to speed. In the Hack-a-thon, we will have Python based challenges for all skill levels, as well as introductory coding lessons for folks who have never coded. We will have food and sodas available, although we would ask that you consider making a small donation towards the cost.

We will have some network drops set up for you to use in the lab. In the Noob Nook, we will offer ~3.5 hours of Python training for absolute beginners to get you up to speed on using Python and start you down the path towards mastery of a powerful and fun programming language.

*NOTE: Please bring a laptop with a version of Python pre-installed. We have a few laptops available if needed, but due to the limited number please bring your own if you can.

Hack-a-thon:

  • Puzzle solving - We will post a variety of easy/medium/difficult puzzles for folks/small teams to try

  • Scoring of puzzles - You will earn points for every puzzle completed successfully, with a leaderboard displaying everyone's results throughout the night

  • Solution Review - We will go over solutions to several of the puzzles, based on audience request

  • Personal Mentoring - Experienced Python coders will be there to assist you on anything Pythonic: the basics, common modules, special techniques, good coding practices, etc. The Noob Nook:

  • An Introductory Lesson will be delivered for absolute beginners to get you started with Python.

Objective: To enhance the local Python community's expertise through fun, challenging problem sets, while also encouraging the growth of beginner Pythonistas via knowledge sharing from experienced mentors. PyNight is intended to be an exciting mechanism to advance your Python skills and foster collaboration across the local Python community.
