A Cloud Gathering

Details

Come join us for a Cloud Meetup! This is sort of an inaugural meeting to gauge interest, though we will have some substantive content for sure.

We will kick off this meetup with a quick overview of cloud and the service models. Then we will dive into Platform as a Service with a specific example from Red Hat. Managers, Operational Users and Developers will see how a local environment can be built and used by developers to create containerized applications that can be deployed to the Data Center Environment.

The format of the cloud meetups will be to target all areas, vendors, users and technologies of Cloud. All audiences from different industries and level of experience are welcome. This is a great opportunity to add topics and present for future Cloud Meetups.

To give you an idea of what we will cover at this Cloud meetup, read below:

  • What is Openshift?
  • What are the supporting technologies for Openshift?
  • Installing OpenShift locally
  • Adding a Container with an API service to a Pod
  • Continuous Build and Deploy

To put some weightier language behind it:

We will discuss Red Hat OpenShift, a container application platform that brings Docker and Kubernetes to the enterprise. The Platform As a Service (PaaS) product provides container-based software deployment and management for apps on-premise, in a public cloud, or hosted. OpenShift adds operations-centric tools on top of Kubernetes to enable rapid application development, easy deployment and scaling, and long-term lifecycle maintenance. The OpenShift Container Plaform (OCP) can help provide a private PaaS environment that you can install locally to develop containerized applications. It includes the same container development and run-time tools used to create and deploy containers for large data centers.

Speakers:

Kenneth Peeples is a Red Hat Public Sector Principal Consultant. During his 25 years of experience he has worked as a consultant for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and other US Agencies with a focus on Security, Cloud, and DevOps.

Dan Kolepp is a Red Hat Services Content Architect within Red Hat's Global Learning Services, developing courses around Red Hat's cloud technologies. Dan previously worked 13 years in the defense industry with various roles in IT and application development.
