Code for LA Meetup @ City Hall

Details
It's an exciting time for civic hacking in LA. Last month, our mayor Eric Garcetti issued an executive directive to have all city agencies participate in a new Open Data Initiative (http://www.dailynews.com/government-and-politics/20131218/la-mayor-eric-garcetti-city-agencies-must-disclose-successes-failures). This portal will be similar to the work Controller Ron Galperin's Office showed us in November, but for all departments.
CODE FOR LA MEETUP @ CITY HALL
We're very excited to invite you to our first Code for LA Meetup at City Hall! As usual, we'll have a few great speakers to present their work, an opportunity for everybody to do a quick update on their projects, followed by casual mingling!
SPEAKERS
Shauna Nep is the Social Innovation Manager at LA2050 (http://www.la2050.org/) – an initiative to create a shared vision for the future of Los Angeles, and to drive and track progress toward that vision. Shauna will highlight initiatives that LA2050 is currently spearheading, what LA2050 is hoping to accomplish in 2014, and how you can help.
Rachel Kornak is the Research & Innovation Manager at the University of Southern California's Spatial Sciences Institute (http://spatial.usc.edu/), an instructor in Penn State's Online Geospatial Program and Creative Director/Editor of GeoPivot Magazine (http://www.geopivot.org/). Do your eyes glaze over whenever you see a spreadsheet? Rachel will showcase ways to flip boring tables into interactive story maps. She'll also highlight fun ways to get involved in the geo community.
