  • Mar 21, 2012 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hey Techies,

Many of you have pulled me aside and said you have ideas, but aren't sure where to begin. So we're going to try something practical: launching an idea from start to finish in 2 meetups. We will launch a Twitter clone, with a special Black Techies twist.

This meetup, we'll take you through the backend setup including database, web server, and setting up the application's models and controllers. At the following meetup we'll design and create the views.

More details to follow...

Agenda:
- 7:00 Meetup begins; Pizza
- 7:05 Ignite Talks (2)
- 7:15 Black Techies do Twitter
- 8:45 Wrap-Up & Preview of next meetup
- 9:00 Happy hour

I gained valuable knowledge of the steps and the thought process needed to get a project underway from the programming side of things.

My bad, I thought this was Black Trekkies. The meetup was good, not enough Klingon talk tho.

Thanks for the information Na'im its useful to know of communities such as General Assembly. I guess I was not clear. I am looking more along the lines of the big conferences, expos hosted in NYC etc than classes to attend with talks by industry leaders about trends in technology, design, development, online marketing. Even if its at high level its still valuable to know what direction the industry is heading.

Hi Amalita, I often attend classes or lectures at General Assembly (www.generalassemb.ly). These lectures and classes are for people interested in Internet Start-ups, went to a great class last month about developing your business ideas.

Amalita, it would be helpful to know what type(s) of conferences/seminars you were interested in. For instance, there's a conference on sentiment analysis going on very soon.

I am curious if anyone knows of Conferences/Seminars etc in the NYC area. The only major one I am aware of is Web 2.0. The company I work for pays for professional development but its hard to know which events are actually beneficial. It would be nice to know others feedback on which are worthy of attending.
