Learn the Basics of Blender: a 3D Modeling Class

Description:
Blender is a popular open-source 3D creation suite used for modeling, animation, sculpting, rendering, and video editing. This class will teach the basics of 3D modeling using Blender. Students will choose from a set of classic fantasy-inspired references to learn the following concepts:

• sculpting a clothed figure
• retopology, or how to restructure the surface of the 3D mesh
• armature usage
• posing the figure

Students will leave with their own files, ready to be processed for a variety of uses from texturing to animation to 3D printing. The class itself will take three hours with a short break in the middle.

Disclaimer: This class will not cover all aspects, features, or uses of Blender. Advanced modeling and texturing will not be included.

Prerequisites: No experience necessary. HackPGH has six lab computers that can be used for this class. We ask that you please leave your personal laptops and computers at home, as the varying operation systems caused delays in previous sessions. However, we always welcome personal laptops used for disability accommodations! If this is the case, kindly contact us ahead of time and plan to arrive a little early so we can prepare for any tech needs.

Date and Time: Monday, December 22nd from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and bottled water are all available from our coffee bar during breaks. Other snacks and drinks are available from our vending machines.

Cost: $55 for non-members, $50 for HackPGH members
