Hacks/Hackers Brisbane is a monthly event where we have speakers on a variety of topics related to how storytelling and technology intersect.
This month we're talking sports data! Our guest will be Timothy Neville, Umpire Performance Analysis Manager for the AFL.
Tim is currently responsible for managing and implementing a new performance analysis system for the AFL Umpires, using the state-of-the-art AFL Review Centre. Prior to joining the AFL, Tim was a postdoctoral research associate at Texas A&M University where he applied Human Factors techniques to understand performance in the Oil and Gas industry and emergency management teams. Tim holds a PhD in Psychology (Human Factors) from the University of the Sunshine Coast where he was an inaugural member of the Centre for Human Factors and Sociotechnical Systems. Prior to his PhD studies, Tim worked for the Defence Science and Technology Group as a Joint Operations Researcher. While with Defence, Tim explored how teams make decisions in complex environments, including how technology impacts teamwork, decision making and overall effectiveness of a joint military force.
