Digital Innovation and Journalism

Details
Digital Innovation have been in the forefront of change in the news and media industry in the past few years, as well as the subject of numerous debates.
In our next meet up we will get together to discuss how innovation can play a role in Ireland’s small media marketplace? Could tech and media communities in Dublin work together to meet the challenges of new media?
Join us for an evening of presentations from some of the leading innovators in Irish media and tech as we discuss the interplay of innovative and journalism in Ireland.
Speakers include:
Mark Little, Journalist and entrepreneur

Neva Labs is an alternative news personalisation platform designed by journalists and developers to promote better transparency, diversity and collaborative filtering for news consumers online.
Matt Cooke, Head of Partnerships & Training, Google News Initiative
Matt will present fan overview on the Google News Lab & Digital News Initiative, the international funding initiative to promote innovation in digital journalism worldwide.
Gavin Sheridan, CEO of VizLegal
Gavin will be giving an insight into how his non-profit initiative Right To Know is working to promote government transparency through open-sourced FOI requests dispersed through collaboration with Irish news organisations.

Bahareh will talk about Data Journalism at UCD. Just as UCD celebrates the end of the first year of this initiative, Bahareh will take us through the journey during the past year in UCD Data Journalism Studio, how the studio collaborated with Irish news organisations, and how it fed into a number of national investigations, such as the latest RTÉ Investigations Unit stories.
