Data Visualisation for Journalists

Details

Hacks/Hackers Dublin in collaboration with UCD Data Journalism Studio are running a workshop on data visualisation tools for journalists. The session will be at the beginner level and suited for anyone interested in using data visualisation tools in their day-to-day reporting.

The session will focus on two tools that are easy to get to grips with for beginners: Flourish and Timeline JS.

Flourish is a data visualisation platform that makes it easy for journalists to produce interactive visuals for their stories, from a simple bar chart and maps to sophisticated data visualisations, based on a number of different templates.

Timeline JS is an open-source tool for building interactive timelines.

You are also invited to visit UCD iSchool's Information Design exhibition at the end of this session.

Who’s facilitating?
Aoife Ryan-Christensen is a digital editor with EVOKE.ie and a Data Journalism student at UCD.

Nora-Ide McAuliffe is a digital production journalist with The Irish Times and a Data Journalism student at UCD.
