Post-NICAR chat

Hello, everyone! My apologies for the paucity of events. It's been a busy few months. Now that my schedule has settled down, I'm hoping to make this more of a regular thing, possibly on the last Thursday of every month.

This month, we'll take the NICAR 2016 conference as our jumping-off point, which I'm attending for the first time this year. I'll present a short note on some of the more interesting sessions, including "Investigating the Legal Marijuana Trade" and "The exploding ecosystem of health data."

I'll also present a short reprise of my NICAR workshop on building Twitter bots with NodeJS, which we've used at the Times for covering Seattle's May Day protests. You can watch as we build a quick bot from scratch, or bring your laptop and follow along.
