Hi folks,

In case you missed Patrick's earlier post, we've recently been invited to participate in a tutorial/hackathon that La Opinion/the LA Press Club and the National Assoc of Hispanic Journalists is sponsoring with assistance from Google (Fusion Table crew). They're theming it around immigration data (of which there is plenty) and they've already pulled together a good deal of data for us to play around with (here: http://hackathon2012.wikidot.com/#toc6). (If you have ideas, you can add them to their list of project possibilities).

They're hoping to split the 2-day event into a tutorial for newbies (mainly around using Fusion Tables), and hackathon for those who want to tool with the data (They've cobbled together a $1k cash prize to sweeten the deal). You can sign up for either or both. It's free.

More info below. One thing: PLEASE RSVP TO THEIR EVENTBRITE (http://hackathonla2012.eventbrite.com/), rather than on our Meetup invite. They tell me they want a head count for food and bev purposes.

Keep your eye on this spot. We'll have more -- and more regular -- HHLA meetups coming soon.

Eric
