AI and the elections: building accountability bots for SA newsrooms

South African developer Sean McDonald wants to talk to journalists about AI, machine learning and the potential for newsrooms in South Africa to deploy tools which will identify bias in reporting and hold election candidates to account in the coming months.

McDonald is a veteran of the highly successful Candidate Watch team, which fact checked the 2016 US election and tracked candidates' changing positions on issues over time. He sees the opportunity for similar collaborations to take on the dodgy news pushers and slippery revisionists that we know are active locally, and beat them at their own game.
