Talks predominantly focus on community members' experience with dbt, however, you'll catch presentations on broader topics such as analytics engineering, data stacks, data ops, modeling, testing, and team structures. Data practionners, amateur hackers & students are all welcome!

Presentation: Canonical Models - The Missing Piece of the Analytics Development Life CycleIn this talk, I’ll explore the concept of a “canonical data model”, and how these models help enhance data consistency and quality. Canonical models serve as standardized frameworks, ensuring a unified understanding of data across an organization, much like GAAP does for financial reporting. By reducing repetitive design efforts, these models can help streamline the data modeling process, allowing for efficient reuse and significant time savings. They also facilitate better collaboration among analytics engineers by providing a common language for data interpretation. A third benefit is Improved data quality, as canonical models can help enforce data integrity and validation in source systems. Through a couple of examples, I’ll illustrate how canonical models bring consistency and shared definitions across diverse data producers and consumers, ultimately leading to more reliable analytics and better decision-making.
