What we’re about

Welcome to the Halls of Men.

We are a ragtag group of thoughtful, intentional men of all ages, demographics, and life experience who set out to live virtuous, meaningful lives in fellowship with other men who strive after the good.

Started by a group of men who met at a Jordan Peterson lecture to take a deeper dive into some of Peterson's and other authors' ideas in philosophy, psychology, theology, politics, and sociology, we have grown into this current meetup group after several discussions together. Our two primary goals are to create an opportunity 1) for men to come together in fellowship, and 2) to take a deeper dive on questions around meaning, virtue, philosophy, faith, mission, and fellowship, coming away with actionable ideas to apply to our own lives.

Whether young or old. Whether religious, spiritual, or agnostic. Whether well-read on Peterson and other authors or just beginning to find their work. Whether living a deeply intentional life or just beginning to do so. What we hold in common is that we are respectful of each other, supportive without compromising our own beliefs and values, and willing to get into it to talk about meaty issues and help each other pursue the Good.

We start where we are, whether that’s by making our beds and cleaning our rooms, or by building families and tribes and carrying out our life’s mission.

Our formats will include meetups for group discussion, sometimes over dinner, and we're open to other activities as the group evolves. Reach out to us at any time with questions, ideas, or feedback.

FAQ:

Q: Do I need to have read Peterson’s or any other author’s books to get something out of this group?
A: No. That being said, 12 Rules for Life is a solid place to start, as are Jordan Peterson’s Genesis and Exodus lecture series, and Viktor Frankl’s book Man’s Search for Meaning. However, a lot of this material is available in snippets and summaries on Youtube or Rumble or your favorite podcast player.

Q: Is this only for men of faith, or men of a specific faith tradition?
A: No. Currently, the regulars include men of Christian faith, Jewish faith, agnosticism, and some Eastern philosophical or faith influences. We want to make sure this group is helpful and open to men seeking to live lives of meaning and virtue.

Q: Is this the setup for a joke? “What happens when a Catholic, a Jew, and an atheist show up at a meetup?”
A: No… but I’m seriously thinking of writing a little coffee table book if we get enough humorous one-liners from the group over the next few months, because I get asked this question all the time.

Q: Will we be talking about Peterson’s next book when it comes out?
A: Yes. Several of us attended his lecture “We Who Wrestle with God” back when he spoke in Atlanta, and the book (amazon.com/dp/0593542533) is coming out in November of this year 2024, so we’ll be sure to weave it in to our discussions somehow.

Q: Is this like a men’s Bible study or book club?
A: No. We welcome referencing Biblical scripture, as well as scripture/writings from other faith traditions, philosophical writings, and more contemporary authors and podcasts. However, this group will not exclusively be referencing the Bible, or any other faith or philosophical traditions.
