Into the Wild East from Herrnburg to Ratzeburg (27 km / hard)

Moin, dear hikers, some adventurous people are wanted who would like to do this hike with me next Saturday. No joke, it's partly through the uncharted East and if you'll occasionally wondering if we've lost our way, you could either be right or it's because a path doesn't exist at all. The tour will take us through the Herrnburg inland dunes to the Duvenester Moor, through ancient beech forests near the village of Schattin, along the notched valleys of Utecht and finally along the eastern shore of Lake Ratzeburg.

Please make sure to be prepared for the distance, it is not possible to shorten. Sturdy shoes and clothes are recommended. And bring your own food and drinks for the day as needed.

We'll use the train RE8 in the direction of Lübeck, starting from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof at 9:06. In Lübeck we change to RE4 in the direction of Bad Kleinen, starting at 10:02 and reaching Herrnburg at 10:11. For the return trip from Ratzeburg to Hamburg we'll use a bus arriving at Wandsbek Markt at 18:25.

We meet at Hamburg Hbf on platform 5 section B, below the sign 'B' at 8:55. The train usually departs from platform 5, but check the displays for any changes on Saturday. Alternatively, if you start somewhere else or would like to have your peace and quiet during the journey, we will meet at 10:11 at the platform of Herrnburg station.

People don't owning a Deutschland-Ticket will need a train ticket Hamburg - Herrnburg and an HVV 5-ring ticket for the bus Ratzeburg - Hamburg. If you're interested in sharing a group ticket for the trip with other participants, please use the event chat for your arrangements.

Please play nice and only sign up if your are 100% sure that you will join! Unreliable people (no show or late cancellation) may be excluded from future events with limited capacity. Repeat offenders will be banned from the group.

As always, this is a free event, but voluntary donations are welcome and help me cover the costs of running the group. Nobody is expected to give, only do so if you can afford it and would like to. Look out for the violet donation box toward the end of the hike.
