What happens when intelligence is no longer valued and society is driven purely by entertainment, consumerism, and laziness? Idiocracy (2006) presents a world where stupidity reigns, corporations control everything, and humanity is on the brink of collapse—yet it’s one of the funniest dystopian films ever made. This event will explore the deeper themes behind the movie: Is Idiocracy just an exaggerated satire, or is it uncomfortably close to reality? How does it comment on consumerism, anti-intellectualism, and the future of civilization? And what role does humor play in discussing these dark ideas?
Join us for an open discussion about this hilarious yet disturbing film!
> PLOT: The plot follows United States Army librarian Joe Bauers and prostitute Rita, who undergo a government hibernation experiment. Joe and Rita awake five hundred years later in a dystopian anti-intellectual society. In this future, intelligence has plummeted, and the world is run by people who can barely think critically. Society is obsessed with trashy entertainment, corporations control everything (including the government), and even basic scientific knowledge is lost.
I invite you to watch the movie before the event!

To ensure that the events run smoothly and everyone has a chance to participate, I want to remind you of the attendance policy. I value your commitment to respecting each other's time and effort in organizing these gatherings. I understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and plans can change. However, to maintain the quality of my events, I kindly ask for your cooperation in adhering to the following policy:
If you are unable to attend an event, please cancel your RSVP as soon as possible.
In the case of three unjustified no-shows (not canceled and no communication), a member may be subject to removal from the group.
IMPORTANT: I want everyone to express their opinions and participate at the conversation so I, as organizer, will moderate the group and I will intervene if the situation is getting chaotic, if some members have no chance to talk or if somebody will act rudely or take over the conversation. Everyone deserves the chance to talk and share their ideas, still respecting other people’s opinions, without ruining the harmony of the group.
If you have questions, you can contact me. You can still join the waiting list and I'll add you but don't forget to subscribe. It's very important. If you are in the waiting list and I haven't added you, send me a message and ask for permission.
