Short Movie Discussion: Alternative Math
Details
Hello everyone. Welcome to our exciting new gathering! Our primary goal is to create a space where kindred spirits come together to engage in thought-provoking conversations, and forge meaningful connections along the way. At our events, we love to delve into the profound and the curious, so you won't find us engaging in small talk. Prepare for stimulating discussions on philosophical topics that will inspire your curiosity. Plus, we'll be conversing in English, making it an inclusive experience for everyone.
In this event, we discuss the thought-provoking short film, "Alternative Math."

>> PLOT: when a first-grade teacher, Mrs. Wells, insists that the only correct answer to "two plus two" is four, she sets off an absurd, yet disturbingly familiar, chain of events. The student's parents reject her correction, escalating the situation into a lawsuit and a media frenzy. The school administration, fearful of public backlash, pressures Mrs. Wells to abandon objective truth for the sake of "open-mindedness" and "sensitivity."
Our goal is not to find a single correct answer—unlike Mrs. Wells' math problem—but to engage in a respectful and stimulating debate about these challenges.

> New Attendance Policy:
To ensure that the events run smoothly and everyone has a chance to participate, I want to remind you of the attendance policy. I value your commitment to respecting each other's time and effort in organizing these gatherings. I understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and plans can change. However, to maintain the quality of my events, I kindly ask for your cooperation in adhering to the following policy:
If you are unable to attend an event, please cancel your RSVP as soon as possible.
In the case of three unjustified no-shows (not canceled and no communication), a member may be subject to removal from the group.
IMPORTANT: I want everyone to express their opinions and participate at the conversation so I, as organizer, will moderate the group and I will intervene if the situation is getting chaotic, if some members have no chance to talk or if somebody will act rudely or take over the conversation. Everyone deserves the chance to talk and share their ideas, still respecting other people’s opinions, without ruining the harmony of the group.
If you have questions, you can contact me. You can still join the waiting list and I'll add you but don't forget to subscribe. It's very important. If you are in the waiting list and I haven't added you, send me a message and ask for permission.
