Picasso–Klee–Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen
Details
Highlighting the careers of Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee, as well as Henri Matisse’s signature cut-outs, Alberto Giacometti’s haunting sculptures, and the works of Georges Braque and Paul Cezanne, this exhibition explores the relationship of famed gallerist and collector Heinz Berggruen with the artistic community of postwar Paris and beyond.
Between the 1940s and the 1990s, Berggruen amassed hundreds of modern masterworks, many of them directly from the artists. As a dealer, he became his own best client, forming a singular collection guided by his tastes and affinities.
