Nevada City - Pioneer Trail (the looonnnggg route)
Details
LONG x-country ride (25 miles or so) with about 2,500-3,000 feet of climbing. Recommended for full-power emtb, although analog riders who can manage 13-15 mph, including long uphill climbs are welcome, too (not going to say "no-drop" as we've had instances where one rider can bring the group to a standstill).
There is a little gnar, but not a ton. It's a very "swoopy" route... lots of swoopy ups and downs. There are quite a few switchbacks, too, and the abort Hallelujah Trail offers some challenging (not hard, but challenging) rock gardens.
Route:
Start at Harmony Ridge Market, heading up Pioneer Trail all the way up to White Cloud Campground, where we'll cross Hwy 20, rising through the campground, to pick up Pioneer again before we hit the very scenic portion. We'll head down Pioneer, basketball in some glorious ridgetop views before hitting a series of switchbacks up to Skillman. About a mile past Skillmann we'll hit the connector over to Hallelujah and thus begins our return route.
On the return, we'll take Hallelujah to Pioneer, before crossing 20 again at Conservation to change it up a little, hitting Cheeseburger or, my low-key fave, Nuthatch. Depending on. how people feel, we can hit one of the Parliament Trails, too, but we might be pretty tired and ready for lunch.
After the ride, we can hit Old Five Mile House or even head to my glamping site for some BBQ and maybe either swi?lmming or hot tub (that pool is cold, but it could be a hot day). If you want to come by camp, just being a change of clothes and respect the campground rules (strict 5mph speed limit... lots of kids).
