Damascus Bladesmithing - Kiridashi Knife

Details

The Kiridashi is the original Japanese utility knife. A smaller chisel pointed version was traditionally carried in the sleeve pocket of one's kimono by both Samurai and peasant alike. The Kiridashi is now used by practically everyone in Japan from children to master craftsmen. In many ways it's the fixed blade equivalent of the western pocket knife.

We will be using this class to explore some advanced design elements.
Our blades will be sawn from prefolded damascus billets and beveled with a single razor edge and then heat treated in the forge.

We will be using colorful synthetic materials for our handles with a selection of G10 and resin available to choose from. We will also be incorporating optional decorative mosaic pins, exposed tang pommels and paracord lanyards.

This is an entire weekend of knifemaking from noon on Saturday to approximately 4:30 and Sunday from noon until your blade is complete.

Wear blacksmithing appropriate attire and feel free to bring drinks or snacks or take advantage of the vending machines here at the workshop.

Ages 18 to 118
Cost: $225
