THIS IS A TWO DAY CLASS BEGINING ON SATURDAY, 11AM - 3PM AND CONCLUDING ON SUNDAY, 11AM - UNTIL COMPLETE

Knightly Daggers are a wonderful way to showcase fancy hilt designs and create a signature piece for your next fancy dress costume party or historical recreation event.

Casting your own custom guards and pommels can really add style to your blade designs, and this class will introduce you to a fun and easy way to add these elements to your work.

We will be casting a variety of guards and pommels from pewter to learn how to fit a blade to a bolster or guard. We will primarily be learning about the hidden tang construction that is common to both daggers and swords.

We will also be creating a fluted handle from resin using a digital design and laser cutting molds for our metal hilt parts.

Some light machining on our manual mills and drill presses will be required to add slots and threads to your cast parts.

We will be building our daggers around pre-made, 1084 tool steel, unsharpened dagger blanks for the basis of our blades. These blades can be sharpened in the class or left dull if you prefer to use your creation as a costume prop or as a first advanced project for a younger smith. We cover knife beveling in a variety of other classes, so we will be spending all of our time in this class focusing on fancy hilts, finish, and fitment and construction.

We will also be learning about making leather sheaths. The sheath is the final step in making a really complete sword or dagger.

This class is suitable for all skill levels, while also providing very useful techniques for intermediate and advanced blade smiths.

Ages: 16- 116
Cost $215

There will be a brief intermission for food and drink, so feel free to bring a snack or order one in on class day.
