Silver Alloy Casting - Cuttlefish bone molds for Jewelry casting

Details

Cuttlefish casting is a quick and fairly accurate casting method. Its applications are limited only by the thickness and overall dimensions of the available shells. It is difficult to achieve fine details on the surface of the casting, but this is offset by the richly complex texture that is a natural by-product of this method.

The back plate or cuttlebone of the ordinary squid (genus: sepia) serves as the mold material.

The process of preparing a one or two-part mold will be learned by using a ring as an example.

In this class we will be making our own silver alloy called Shibuichi which is a blend of silver and copper.

Ages 16-116
Cost $125
